Hey, I'm James!

James designs, develops and delivers creative works while consistently demonstrating expert understanding, analysis, and implementation of design and design theory. With an extensive client list spanning government, legal, healthcare, entertainment, events, food and beverage, construction, architecture, and finance industries, his breadth of experience enables him to provide invaluable insight and deliver outstanding creative works to the highest standards.

Utilising advanced practical skills and a scientific approach to design theory, James has lectured and tutored graphic design, web development and game design at Bond University (Gold Coast, Australia). As a Subject Coordinator and Lecturer, James sharpened the skills and broadened the creative minds of thousands of aspiring designers, developers and problem solvers, while nurturing their creativity and honing their skills.

Beyond his client work, James has a keen interest in painting, videogames, travel, and wine tasting. He also enjoys working on personal projects and writing in his spare time.

James graduated with a Master of Philosophy (Bond University, 2017) with his thesis, Freeplay in Videogames, which exploring the creative and often spontaneous act of play that sees players deviating from the primary objectives of a game and instantiating their own goals, rules, and game modes. Freeplay and gameplay present as a duality of play in videogames, with players drifting between defined gameplay objectives of the videogame, and player defined activities. Outside of freeplay, his other research interests include working towards a unified theory of play, as well as engagement and gamification in education.
